What is Holistic Medicine?

Holistic Medicine has been defined by Dr. George J Georgiou as follows:

"Holistic medicine is a system of health care that combines many modalities and models of healthcare such as allopathic medicine, surgery, osteopathy, naturopathy, nutrition, homeopathy, herbal medicine, energy medicine, psychoemotional modalities of healing and much more. The goal of these combined therapies is to help the patient or client achieve optimal physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual health."

Holistic Medicine needs to look at the whole person and how they interact with their environment and the people around them. It needs diagnostic and therapeutic tools to examine and balance the physical, nutritional, environmental, psychological, emotional, social, spiritual and etheric levels of health. It therefore encompasses all modalities of diagnosis and treatment as stated above, including allopathic medicine using drugs and surgery if there are no other safer alternatives.

The Holistic medicine practitioner is very focused on education and encouraging people to take responsibility for lifestle changes to achieve balance and well being.Holistic Medicine will therefore encompass all diagnostic and therapeuic modalities - it is not polemic towards allopathic medicine which also plays an important role in optimizing health and has its place in the Holistic Model. However, one of the problems of allopathic or mainstream medicine is that they have restricted their view of health and disease to only one level of health - they concentrate on the first level - the PHYSICAL and CHEMICAL level which is termed the PHYSICAL BODY and is on level 1 of the pyramid below. From the Holistic Integrated Map below we see that there are FIVE levels of health: The Physical Body, the Electrical Regulation Body, the Mental Body, the Intuitive Body and the Soul at the top.

Holistic Medicine does not only look at one of these levels but all the levels of being - this is why we say that Holistic Medicine is treating the person and not just the disease. The ultimate goal of the Professional Diploma in Holistic Medicine is to provide the practitioner with the tools, in enough depth, for them to competently practice Holistic Medicine to help optimize the health of their patients. The course is built on therapeutic protocols developed by Dr. Georgiou in coordination with many of the practitioners he has worked with around the world. These therapeutic protocols have been tested and retested over decades in a Holistic Medicine Centre to determine which work and which do not - these protocols alone have more value to a potentially successful practitioner than the money that anyone will pay for the courses themselves!
